Through the Wilderness of Finnmark (5-12.8.2018)

Finnmark is Norway’s northest province and situated about 300 kilometers above the arctic circle. Finnmark offers wide, uninhabited wilderness areas. You can hike there days without any contact to other people or settlement. During this 8 days and about 125 kilometers tour we hike from Utsjoki, Finland to Lakselv, Norway, which is located on the shore of Arctic Ocean. During the hike you will learn hiking skills, which are needed when hiking through wide wilderness areas, make route choices, hike and navigate outside the trails, tent above the treeline, find the best places to cross rivers and learn how to cross them safely, think how to prepare and handle problem situations and most important, you will have an access to enjoy several days peacefulness of the wilderness and magnificent nature.

Arctic Ocean at Lakselv

Traveling to Utsjoki and from Lakselv: Because we do not do a loop hike we travel from Lakselv, Norway back to Finland by buss. If you are traveling to north by your own car I recommend following arrangement: Leave your car to Inari and take a buss to Utsjoki (www.matkahuolto.fi). From Lakselv take a buss back to Inari (www.eskelinen.fi). If you use only public transportation you can take a buss from Rovaniemi to Utsjoki and from Lakselva to Rovaniemi. To Rovaniemi you can come by train (www.vr.fi) or by airplane. Vi vill also create facebook pages for participants. There you have a possibility to match a shared ride and this way downgrade costs and carbon footprint caused by traveling.

Accomodation on Utsjoki and Lakselv: Camping Lapinkylä is situated middle of the village at Utsjoki. At Lakselv I can recommend you to accomodate Camping Fjordutsikten Porsanger, which is situated around kilometer from downtown, next to Arctic Ocean. Both you can either camp on a yard in your own tent or book a room/cottage.
