Finnmark is Norway’s northest province and situated about 300 kilometers above the arctic circle. Finnmark offers wide, uninhabited wilderness areas. You can hike there days without any contact to other people or settlement. During this 8 days and about 125 kilometers tour we hike from Utsjoki, Finland to Lakselv, Norway, which is located on the shore of Arctic Ocean. During the hike you will learn hiking skills, which are needed when hiking through wide wilderness areas, make route choices, hike and navigate outside the trails, tent above the treeline, find the best places to cross rivers and learn how to cross them safely, think how to prepare and handle problem situations and most important, you will have an access to enjoy several days peacefulness of the wilderness and magnificent nature.

Guide: Jenni Antinaho, who has made several longer and shorter hikes around wilderness in the North during the last decade. She has got the arctic bite already from childhood, when doing hiking trips with her parents. Motto: Home is where I pitch the tent in the evening. During the last years the place of the home has changed often, she has slept in the tent way more than hundred nights during the year.
Number of participants: 4-8 persons
Accomodation: own tent
Required experience: Day distances vary between 15-20 kilometers. In some points terrain is challenging because of the stony terrain and ascent/descent meters. Participants should be able to hike distances mentioned above while carrying all 8 days equipment and food.
Own equipment: Hiking gear for longer tours. Accomodation in own tents (must handle hard winds above the treeline), own food which is prepared on a stove. Hiking poles are highly recommended. Those are needed when crossing the rivers and on a demanding terrain.
Preliminary hiking route, final is based on weather conditions: We hike from Utsjoki, Finland towards Rastigaisa, which is the highest fjell in Finnmark. From there we are heading to northwest and Lakselv.
