*Winter Camping, Introduction to Overnight Winter Tours

During this 2 days course you will gain knowledge how to make your own overnight winter tour safely, smart and enjoyable. During the course we go through what to consider when selecting the destination and how do we do route planning. What different equipment it is possible to use on a winter conditions and which equipment works best on which conditions. We learn tricks for the winter camping in tent, how to keep yourself dry and warm, how to get water and what to take into account what comes to energy. How different outdoor kitchens are working on minus degrees. How do you prepare yourself to a possible challenges and you also gain knowledge about avalanche safety. We also learn basics a of using map and compass.

Course contains one night winter camping tour on Tromsø, Kvaløya island.

When: As agreed with private groups.

Where: Tromsø, Kvaløya island. There goes buss connection to the location.

Guide: Jenni Antinaho, professional wilderness guide, who has made several longer and shorter hikes around wilderness in the North during the last decade. She has got the arctic bite already from childhood, when doing hiking trips with her parents. Motto: Home is where I pitch the tent in the evening. During the last years the place of the home has changed often, she has slept in the tent way more than hundred nights during the year.

Language: English, Finnish or Norwegian

Accommodation: In a tent.

Required experience: Earlier winter camping experience is not needed. Moderate level of fitness and good ski- or snowshoe knowledge and adventures mind. Summer camping experience is recommended

Own equipment: Fellskies or snowshoes and warm shoes/ski boots, poles suitable for steep snow. Warm sleeping back and mattress (you can also have two sleeping bags one upon the other). Wind- and waterproof jacket and pants, warm jacket (for example down jacket). Meals for the whole course. Waterproof bags to carry your equipment in the pulka. After signing into the course, you will get more detailed list for the equipment and some tips for the food and equipment. There is possibility to rent these equipment from Tromso Outdoor

Price:  1-4 person: 9000 nok/course , 5 person or more: 2350 nok/person

Price includes: Local guide, special safety equipment used during the course, tent, outdoor kitchen, pulka

Price does not include: Insurance, food, transportation to the destination, skis/snowshoes, sleeping bag and sleeping mattress (see “own equipment”.
